At Salty Fit we really try to create a community feel and genuinely take interest and care about all of our members. So we thought we would start introducing some of our star clients;

theresa-saltyMEET THERESA!
She has come so far in her swim journey and is now raising money for CanToo with partaking in a 2km ocean swim. We are behind her every step of the way! She answered a few question for us so we could hear about her personal swim journey with Salty Fit!

We are sooo proud of Theresa’s journey and accomplishments so far! We can’t wait to see you swim your way to your goal too.

What was your swim ability before you started swimming with Salty Fit?
I started in the little pool at Icebergs with the kick board learning to blow bubbles. As a child I was taught to roll on my back if I fell into the water, and that’s about all i could do. I consider myself lucky that I love the water and am not scared of it at all – I just didn’t know what to do.

What prompted you to book into lessons?
I was (happily!) retrenched and had three months off over summer before my new job started, so I decided it was now or never. So I booked in for three individual lessons to see how I went. I had three lessons a week until I went back to work and by then was starting to mix in some Advance Your Style and  Lap Time sessions too.

How did you feel after your first few sessions?
I have to admit, I was feeling pretty smug. I have some friends who are real water men & women and once I told them what I was doing they were all really supportive and proud. That gave me a real spring in the step to push through and keep at it.

Physically, I found it really helped my asthma and couldn’t have anticipated how much better I’d feel.  And! since then I swum through most of winter and it’s the first year I didn’t get a cold or flu – maybe there’s something too all that talk about cold water helping the immune system?:)

How did Salty Fit help you on your swim journey?
I’m not sure I could have progressed as much as I have if it wasn’t for the individual attention and patience shown by the Salty Fit team. Even in the group sessions I still feel I get individual attention and it’s all about me. It was also really nice to meet new people of all capabilities and make some new friends.

What was a breakthrough/stand out moment for you?
So so many to choose from. My first full session without the kickboard was an early milestone. Swimming 50m and later 800m continuously, and joining the crew to Face the Waves on Friday mornings. Every week I have a breakthrough of some kind!

Do you have any goals you are currently working towards?
There was an ulterior motive when I started on the Journey in November 2016…. I didn’t tell anyone at the time, but I thought “if i’m any good at this I’m going to do a proper ocean swim”. I’ve signed up with CanToo to take part in the Bondi Classic 2km swim in Feb. We have some nasty cancers in my family and each year I pick a new event with CanToo to raise money, a new event that I have to work for….. and this year it’s the swim.
