If you are doing private lessons, Build Your Style or Ultimate Beginner you will require fins. We recommend short fins. You can purchase fins from our online shop here.
What kind of wetsuit do I need?
If you already have a surfing wetsuit these are fine to swim in, otherwise, you can purchase a swimming wetsuit. Most of our swimmers wear Orca wetsuits. You can purchase Ocra wetsuits online via their website or they are stocked at Fast Gear in the city, 141 York St.
Should I book in for Ultimate Beginner or Build Your Style?
If you are comfortable in deep water, putting your face in the water and can swim 50m laps you are the correct level for Build Your Style. These sessions run in the 50m pool at the Icebergs with the instructor out of the water.
If you are not comfortable in deep water, cannot put your face in the water or have difficulty doing so you should be in the Ultimate Beginner class. These sessions run in the small pool at the Icebergs where the water is shallow enough to stand and your instructor is in the water with you.
Am I the correct level for the Lap Time sessions?
Our Lap Time sessions have a variety of abilities. During the session we swim anywhere between 1.2km-3.2km. Our swimmers swim anywhere between 1.20-3.30 for a 100m.
Am I the correct level for the Face The Waves sessions?
We require anyone who attends Face The Waves to be able to swim 1km without stopping. If you have little ocean swimming experience we recommend attending a few Lap Time sessions to get used to swimming in ocean water.

I can no longer make one of my Build Your Style/Ultimate Beginner classes, what should I do?
Please be aware that you have booked into a course which runs every Monday, Wednesday or Saturday for the course of four weeks.
There is a sequence of drills we teach to ensure you get the most logical progression in learning correct and effective freestyle technique.
If you miss out on a lesson, you most likely can catch up in the following lesson.
However, we cannot hold the group up to reteach an entire section of the course if you have missed out.
If you are enrolled in the Build Your Style course and let us know what session you will be missing we can try to fit you into one of the other BYS sessions running during the week.
If you are enrolled into Ultimate Beginner, there are no options to make-up as this course is only run once a week.
